2024 Chardonnay, Bodega Bouza

wish listAdd to Wishlist

Bouza sits alongside the larger, lavish Garzón at the summit of Uruguay’s fast-evolving wine scene, with its Tannat-based Monte Vide EU arguably the country’s top red blend. Based in the relatively cool Montevideo, whose climate is not much warmer than Tasmania, this family-owned producer, only founded in the year 2000, also turns out fine a Chardonnay whose toffee-apple creaminess our wine director Peter Mitchell MW likens to that of ‘a good Meursault’.

Tasting notes

Pale yellow colour with silver highlights. Hints of minerals on the nose, with marked tropical fruit aromas, pineapple and pear, wrapped in pink grapefruit and lime notes. Sweet fruits and piercing acidity on the attack with buttery brioche to finish. 16.5 points, JancisRobinson.com Bright and juicy Chardonnay. This warmer vintage shows tropical and citrus notes, with heady aromas of pineapple, key lime pie and pink grapefruit. There’s a youthful richness on the palate, but juicy acidity keeps it crisp and fermentation in French oak gives it a toasty complexity. (AB)
