Sustainability At Heart

From the family-owned wineries we deal with, to the way in which we run our business day to day.

Family First

At Jeroboams, sustainability is a natural extension of our heritage as a family-owned wine merchant. With future generations in mind, we recognise that a resilient climate, responsible production and long-term land stewardship are fundamental not only to the quality of the wines we offer, but also to the communities and landscapes that produce them.

Our focus is on making a meaningful, long-term As a family business working closely with other family producers, sustainability carries particular resonance. It sits at the heart of what we do and what we expect of those we work with.

Our focus is on making a meaningful, long-term difference where it matters most: how our wines are grown, how they are transported, and how our business operates day to day.

Good Practice, Always

Sustainability at Jeroboams is embedded across the business rather than managed as a standalone function. Oversight sits within the senior management team, with responsibility shared across buying, logistics and operations.

We take a practical, relationship-led approach. Alongside reviewing certifications, we regularly visit our producers to understand how they work in practice, placing as much value on real-world behaviours as on formal accreditation.

This allows us to make informed decisions about the wines we buy and the partners we work with, while continuing to raise standards over time.

Responsible Sourcing and Agriculture

We work predominantly with independent, family-owned wineries, many of which we have partnered with for decades. These long-standing relationships allow us to support responsible viticulture, environmental stewardship and thoughtful land management.

Good practices we look for include sustainable vineyard management, careful use of resources, waste reduction and a clear commitment to long-term environmental responsibility.

An increasing number of our partners hold recognised certifications, including organic, biodynamic and sustainability schemes such as HVE3 in France and Climate Adaptation Certification in California. Others are progressing towards certification or implementing sustainable practices in their own way.

By maintaining close relationships and visiting producers regularly, we are able to support those actively adapting to the challenges of climate change and improving their environmental impact over time.

From Vineyard to Table

We consider the full journey of our wines, from production through to delivery.

We work with a small number of trusted logistics partners and consolidate shipments wherever possible to reduce freight intensity. Our partners are selected for their ability to deliver efficient and lower-impact transport, including the use of biodiesel in deep-sea shipping and electric vehicles within the UK.

Packaging is another key area of focus. We have worked closely with our producers to reduce bottle weight, and today over half of the wines we ship are in lightweight glass, a proportion that continues to increase.

These practical measures allow us to reduce emissions while maintaining the quality and integrity of the wines we offer.

Climate Action and Carbon Measurement

We are taking a more structured approach to understanding and reducing our carbon impact.

Since 2024, Jeroboams has been working with Greenly to measure emissions across our operations and supply chain. This work will establish our first full carbon footprint baseline and allow us to identify the most material sources of emissions.

This is an important step in developing a clear roadmap for emissions reduction, alongside the practical actions already in place across logistics and packaging.

Our Operations

• Deliveries are managed through logistics partners that optimise routes and vehicle use

• Our shops and offices use low-energy lighting

• Packaging and paper are recycled wherever possible

• Invoicing and the majority of communication is carried out electronically to reduce paper usage

We continue to review how our day-to-day operations can become more efficient and lower impact over time.

Industry Collaboration

Jeroboams is a signatory of the Harpers Sustainability Charter, joining a network of UK drinks businesses committed to continuous improvement, collaboration and greater transparency across the sector.

We believe meaningful progress requires collective action and shared responsibility across the wine industry.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability at Jeroboams is an ongoing journey. Each year, we review how our business can continue to reduce its environmental impact while supporting the long-term viability of the wine industry.

Our current focus is on strengthening our understanding of emissions through carbon measurement, while continuing to support responsible sourcing, improve logistics and work closely with producers who are investing in the future of their land.

While the quality of what’s in the bottle is of paramount importance, it is equally imperative that our supply chain also meets environmental criteria to limit our impact on the planet. Today, within the food-and-drink world, the wine industry is a particularly high-profile sector when it comes to gauging such outputs, be it via the way vineyards are farmed, or the way in which wine is shipped. We have the power and ability to ensure that we work in such a way and with such suppliers, to ensure we maintain high standards of sustainable practices.
