St Chinian
To the North of Narbonne, St Chinian has 2 very distinct terroirs. In the North West are schist soils which produce quite light, intensly fruity and very satisfying wines for early drinking, whilst in the South and East of the appelation, heavier clay soils give wines of more depth power and greater structure. Syrah is very important here and the wines tend to have a little more elegance and finesse than in surrounding appelations.
