2022 Puligny-Montrachet, 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux, Domaine Matrot (6 x Bottle)

France Burgundy Cote de Beaune

Premier Cru Chalumeaux is one of the highest and most northern Crus of Puligny-Montrachet, located on the border of Meursault and Blagny. The soil on this part of the slope is stony, and the vineyard is exposed to the wind. A very fresh nose of citrus fruits, spices, and stones. Maturity tends to arrive quickly here, and this is very well balanced in terms of fruit and acidity. The finish is long, spicy, and elegant.

Vinous

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Chalumaux 1er Cru is much more expressive on the nose than the La Garenne, which is apparently always the way. Quince, Japanese yuzu and wilted yellow flowers infuse the citrus fruit, a hint of frangipane appears with aeration. The palate is very taut and concentrated on the entry, with fine acidity. It’s slightly viscous in texture but holds on to Puligny DNA and fans out wonderfully on the finish. Superb.
