2017 Savigny-les-Beaune, 1er Cru Les Serpentieres, Domaine Simon Bize (6 x Bottle)
The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Serpentières 1er Cru has the most complex bouquet from Bize this year, intense mineral notes suffusing the mainly red fruit, and hints of Japanese nori and a subtle marine influence developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a little chalky in texture, but turns supple toward the smooth, elegant finish. Bon vin!

The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières offers up an attractive bouquet of sweet strawberries, orange rind and rose petal, followed by a medium-bodied, ample palate with melting tannins that are largely enveloped by its juicy core of fruit. While this site seems to require hot, dry vintages to deliver profundity, this is a charming rendition that will drink well out of the gates.
