Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2017 Etna Rosso de Aetna (made with 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio) is packed tight with red fruit, spice, licorice, volcanic tones and tangy mountain herb. This is a classic interpretation that never pushes the boundaries one way or the other. Maybe the fruit is a little ripe in this hot and dry vintage; however, the wine offers enough power and strength to pair with lamb or a gamey venison. The finish offers a combination of ripe cherry fruit and bright acidity. Production is exactly 27,654 bottles strong.

Vinous

The 2017 Etna Rosso de Aetna is very pretty with its notes of apple spiced herbal tea, geraniums and hints of flowery undergrowth. It’s soft and fleshy in feel, complemented by a balance of ripe red fruits and clove, all energized by vibrant acidity. Fine tannins linger, along with a bit of earthy minerality that only slightly detracts, as this tapers off pleasantly sweet with an autumnal flair. Considering the warmth of the vintage versus the price point and balance of the 2017 de Aetna, this is a winner in my book.
