2017 Cornas, Pur Noir, Domaine du Tunnel (Bottle)

I tasted from a single barrel that Robert was confident would go into the 2017 Cornas Pur Noir (production of this cuvée is typically just a barrel or two). It shows an extra layer of depth relative to anything else in the cellar, with pristine aromas of crushed stones, violets and cassis as well. Full-bodied and breathtakingly powerful and intense, it's packed with silky tannins, plus hints of licorice and cracked pepper. Awesome juice.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

There are only about 700 bottles of Robert’s 2017 Cornas Pur Noir, so if this is your jam, you better move quickly to secure some. Smoke and vanilla frame huge blackberry and cassis fruit on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is velvety while remaining fresh and lively. Yes, this is a tannic wine, but the tannins are fully ripe, and the wine isn’t unapproachable, even now. It should drink well for up to 15 years or so.

Vinous

Brilliant magenta. Powerful, mineral-driven aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, candied violet, olive paste and exotic spices. Densely packed and lively in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors that unfold slowly with air and show superb delineation. The blue fruit and floral notes drive an impressively long, juicy finish given framework by fine-grained, slow-building tannins.
