2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc, 1er Cru Grande Montagne, Domaine Fontaine Gagnard (6 x Bottle)
From a site next to La Romanée that suffered from hydric stress this year, the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Grande Montagne offers up aromas of citrus oil, tart orchard fruit, white flowers and chalky soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural but firm and tight-knit, with considerable structural tension and reserve despite its nicely concentrated core.

Vinous
Bright lemon-yellow color. Aromas of pear and menthol plus a slightly funky note of reduction. Offers good intensity but a bit short on give and flavor complexity, not to mention flesh, with its lemon and rocky mineral elements coming across as drier than the last few examples. Just a suggestion of green acidity here. (just 12.3% potential alcohol, chaptalized to 13%, as these relatively young vines on very shallow soil struggled to ripen)
