Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2017 Azuda Garnacha was produced with grapes from head-pruned vines planted ten years ago in the granite tops of the slopes of Almahue in Cachapoal. It fermented with native yeasts and with pigéage every two days in open vats. It matured in well-seasoned 300-liter oak barrels for one year before bottling. This was harvested very early, around the second week of February, and the wine has a profile that reminded me of one of the Garnachas from Gredos in Spain, with bright red fruit and floral aromas, including some spiciness from the stems. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and has the austerity of the granite and very tasty flavors. It’s a great improvement over the previous year. 2,700 bottles were filled in March 2018.
