2016 Meursault, Les Grands Charrons, Domaine Michel Bouzereau (6 x Bottle)

France Burgundy Cote de Beaune

The 2016 Meursault Village les Grands Charrons comes from five parcels, but this year they only used those untouched by the frost. It has an attractive, quite resinous bouquet with hints of yellow flower and honeysuckle emerging with aeration. The palate is fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, slightly honeyed in texture with yellow plum and a hint of passion fruit toward the linear finish. The severe selection clearly ameliorated this cuvée this year, though that means there are only around 25 barrels instead of over 40.

Vinous

Bright yellow. Pure aromas of white peach, lemon and white flowers. Shows a bit more fat than Bouzereau’s lean but very fresh Bourgogne Blanc, but still a wine of moderate texture and material. Slightly green throughout, finishing with a slight menthol bitterness. Some of these parcels were frosted.

Vinous

(this wine was bottled in December, while the Meursault Tessons and the premier crus were finished in January): Pale yellow with a gold tinge. Ripe apple butter and yellow peach on the nose, plus a faint honeyed quality that carries through on the palate. Offers good texture and decent underlying minerality but the distinctly yellow fruit flavors come across as a tad sour. The finish is a bit harsh in the early going. One can see the effects of frost here in the wine’s overripe/underripe quality.
