2015 Valpolicella Superiore Mai Dire Mai, Pasqua

Italy Veneto Valpolicella

Tasting note

Dense rich and ripe with huge extract and fruit concentration. Full of flavours of black cherry, mocha and spice. The palate is full bodied, with rich tannins and lovely balance.

Our thoughts

Founded in Verona in 1925, today Pasqua makes a host of wines up and down the country, spanning both large-production, value bottlings and small-batch, high-end wines. This is very much the latter, the brand’s flagship Valpolicella, with more than a hint of an Amarone quality to it. Despite its inherent richness and power, however, ‘Mai Dire Mai’ (meaning ‘Never Say Never’) is not a beast, and carries the hallmark refreshing, dry finish of its appellation.

Vinous

The 2015 Valpolicella Superiore Mai Dire Mai is dusty and floral, with hints of curry leaf and roses giving way to dried black cherries. This is a soft and pure effort, with pretty red berries and inner spices propelled by juicy acids. It leaves a buzzing of acid tension yet also a subtle bit of heat, as it finishes long and fresh.

Vinous

The 2015 Valpolicella Superiore Mai Dire Mai is airy and fresh, with a delicate blend of dusty rose and scant black cherry forming its bouquet. Juicy and round, it soothes with fresh acidity and cooling mineral tones that accentuate its crisp wild berry fruits. Medium in length, this finishes on a savory note, leaving hints of licorice to slowly fade.
