1995 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 5th Growth Pauillac, ex Chateau Release Feb 2020 (6 x Bottle)

France Bordeaux Pauillac

Another unbelievably rich, multidimensional, broad-shouldered wine, with slightly more elegance and less weight than the powerhouse 1996, this gorgeously proportioned, medium to full-bodied, fabulously ripe, rich, cassis-scented and flavored Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a beauty. It should be drinkable within 4-5 years, and keep for 25-30. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.

Inside Bordeaux

Significantly softer than 1998, beautifully graceful, with whisps of campfire smoke and autumnal hedgerow blackberry puree, held in place by barely there tannins. A warm vintage and you see the generosity. It is absolutely ready to drink, and begging for a quiet corner and a good book. Soft in the finish but with poise and charm. September 18 to October 3.

90 Points / Drinking 2021 - 2030

Vinous

1995 Grand Puy Lacoste: Excellent deep ruby-red. Blue fruit, minerals and licorice on the nose. Quite dense in the mouth, with an enticing sappy cherry sweetness. But ultimately round and fat more than truly intense. Acids seem a bit low. An attractive, atypically forward style of Grand Puy Lacoste.

Vinous

Dark ruby-red. Ripe, expressive nose combines cassis, roasted plum and coconut. Supple, very concentrated and large-scaled; actually rather backward today even if the terrific ripeness is clear to see. Quintessential firm Pauillac backbone is covered by flesh. Will rely more on its tongue-dusting tannins than its acidity to age in bottle. This wine firmed up noticeably during its second year in barrel.
