Robert Sinskey
Robert Sinskety was born in Los Angeles, but has lived in and around Napa wine country for over 30 years now, practicing what he preaches about minimum intervention vine growing and wine making. The estate was started when his father, Bob, retired as an eye surgeon in the late 70’s and started to buy vineyards with a view to a retirement career in wine. His son was recruited to help and he has grown this estate to nearly 80 hectares in Stag’s leap and Carneros. Since 1991 all his vineyards have been farmed and certified biodynamic. The winery also produces most of its own electricity through a solar plant and bio diesel for machinery is made from recycled cooking oil. As he was once a ‘wannabe chef’, his philosophy of wine is that drinking It is not an ‘athletic event’ and that ‘the goal is to make pure wines that pair well with cuisine’. Whilst the wines here all have the unmistakable ripeness of California, this is not an address for blockbuster wines, but for those of elegance and finesse.
