Newfound
Newfound Wines is a small family-owned winery located in the Sierra Foothills established in 2016 by Matt Naumann and his partner, Audra Chapman. They began by tearing out the existing vineyard in their remote piece of land in El Dorado County to start anew and revive this vineyard from its conventionally farmed past. Intent on producing wine in the most sustainable way possible they brought in 200 goats to graze the hillsides and to naturally compost the site and they’ve created a fire safe zone by lifting the densely forested canopy and cover cropped with a recipe of legumes, clovers and nitrogen fixing green manures. Newfound has come to define Matt and Audra’s farming dream to become first generation grape growers and wine producers while also supporting several grape growers who they source additional grapes from who share their same set of convictions. The very definition of new California, their range is still evolving, but they are currently making various Grenache wines, Old Vine Semillon, Pinot Noir and Carignane, all with subtlety and elegance.
