Moraitis Winery
Started in 1910 by Manolis Moraitis, the estate is currently run by his grandson, Manolis Jr. and his wife Maria. In time their son, Theodore, a qualified oenologist, will take over. It is a struggle to preserve vineyards here against tourist development, but the domain currently has 15 hectares of mostly indigenous varieties, with a smattering of ‘international’ varieties. The white estate wine is bone dry and quite full with mineral and citrus notes, whilst the red conjures memories of fine north-western Italian wine, with truffley fruit and good structure. In common with the best Italian wines, these are most at home with food.
