La Bioca
Although the winery is in the commune of Serralunga, the 8.6 hectares of producing vineyards are situated in the villages of Monforte d’Alba (Bussia & San Sebastiano crus), Novello (Ravera), La Morra (Castagni & Croera), Barbaresco (Secondine & Ronchi). A further 7.4 hectares in Roddino (Corini), have recently been planted. The winery was founded by former journalist and now trained oenologist, Bisso Atanassov. Bioca is Piedmontese dialect for a tough, single-minded person, reflecting Bisso’s struggle to get this dream project off the ground. In 2018, Bisso left to pursue other projects, however his former assistant has taken the reigns and continues his fine work. A wide range of wines is made including Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa, Pelaverga, Favorita and several Barbaresco and Barolo cru wines, alongside a fabulous Langhe Nebbiolo and an exquisite Chardonnay grown in the Bussia cru.
