Gusbourne Estate
The first plantings were made in this warm corner of Kent by Andrew Weeber in 2004 with a simple goal – to make sparkling wine that would be comparable to the best in the world. The debut vintages were released in 2010 to critical acclaim. Under winemaker Charlie Holland, the wines have gone from strength to strength and are now justifiably seen as amongst the best made in the UK. Significant investment over the past 20 years means there is a fine, modern winery with a visitor centre attached and 90 hectares of vines, a third on Sussex chalk, the remainder on Wealden clay in Kent. Only vintage wines are made – a deliberate choice as they want to express not only the terroir, but the conditions of each year as well. Alongside the award-winning sparkling wines, tiny quantities of perhaps the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay made in the UK are produced when the conditions allow.
