Fuentes del Silencio
Founded by María José Galera and Miguel Ángel Alonso in an 18th century winery in the Jamuz Valley, Fuentes del Silencio works with sprawling old bush vines of the local indigenous varieties, Mencia, Prieta Picudo, and Alicante Bouschet. The Jamuz valley is located around 15 km from Bierzo and sits in the rain shadow of El Teleno. The vines are up to 100 years old and are located at 800m altitudes where there is a great diurnal temperature variation, allowing for powerful yet very fresh wines. The wines are made by the spectacularly bearded Raul Perez, one of Spain’s top consultant enologists, aided by Marta Ramas, who honed her skills in Bordeaux, Napa and Hawkes Bay. Whilst these are stylistically similar to the finest wines from Bierzo, they perhaps have a touch more softness to them. With spectacular depth of fruit allied to great complexity, these represents fine value for money.
