Domaine Georges Roumier
Founded in 1924, this domaine of around 12 hectares, mostly in Chambolle, is currently run by Georges grandson, Christophe, who started work at the domaine in 1982 and has propelled it to its place as one of the top half dozen addresses in Burgundy. The reds from here (and other than a very small amount of Corton-Charlemagne, the wines are all red) manage to be both substantial and vigorous at the same time as velvety and elegant – a rare trick to pull off. Attractive when young, they are truly magical after a decade in bottle, with the Musigny particularly superb and the Bonnes-Mares perhaps the best that is made.
