Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
Founded in 1850 by Jean-Baptiste Laroze, the domaine is today run by the fifth generation, Philippe and Christine, and consists of 12 hectares, a half of which are Grand Crus. Whilst quality was often so-so during the 90s, it has leapt forward since with the wines now much deeper and more exciting. Thirteen different wines are made here and the emphasis is towards rich, bright fruit and a certain prettiness. Philippe Drouhin’s grandparents astutely invested in Grand Cru land whenever the best parcels became available, creating holdings that would be impossible to achieve in the modern era. As a result, Drouhin-Laroze has vineyards in some of the best sites in the Côte de Nuits and 40% of their holdings are Grand Cru. The new generation at the domaine, Caroline and Nicolas, have continued to build upon and refine the great work of their parents and grandparents. Sadly, the volumes of the Grand Crus are reduced by 20% in 2018 and will be highly sought after.
