Companhia Agricola do Sanguinhal
There have been vineyards in this area since early medieval times when the Cistercian monks cultivated the land, however it’s most recent history dates back to 1927, when it was founded by Abel Periera da Fonseca to make the wine from the three estates that he owned in the area and is still in the same family. The largest estate in Sao Francisco, with 55 hectares under vine and from where most of their white wines are made. Sanghuinal has just 25 hectares of vineyard and makes the biggest and ripest of the wines, while Cerejeiras makes full but elegant wines.
