Chateau Tahbilk
Established in 1860, Tahbilk is one of Australia’s most historic wineries. The property consists of over 1,200 hectares on the banks of the Goulburn river, of which 200 are planted to vines, including Shiraz vines that are 150 years old and still producing a crop! Tahbilk is most famous for its Rhône varietal wines, but also produces noteworthy Cabernets and small amounts of Riesling and Verdelho. Winemaking here is very traditional, with reds being aged in huge oak vats many of which are over 100 years old. You will find no sweet vanilla oak flavours in the wines here, just unadulterated fruit! The Marsanne is a rich yet fresh wine, full of citrus and melon, whilst the Viognier is very pure and full, without the heaviness often seen in his varietal. The Cabernet is just starting to mature, with eucalyptus and cassis and great balance, whilst the elegant Shiraz is full of leathery.
