Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion
Across the road from Haut-Brion and in the same ownership, the Dillon family, since 1983, both properties are managed by the same viticutural and winemaking teams. The 22 hectares of red vineyard have cru classé status and make around 6,000 cases of grand vin each year. Although made in essentially the same way, it is fascinating how different the wines are, with markedly different soils in these neighbours. La Mission is always the fuller and more robust of the two wines with tannins perhaps a shade less fine, but it is nontheless a superb wine and generally a match for the first growths. Around 600 cases of a very fine white is also made here, which until 2009 was called Laville Haut-Brion.
