Bodegas y Vinedos Conde San Cristobal
This Bodega was created in 2000 by the Marques de Vargas (qv), with the first release being the critically acclaimed 2003 vintage. There are 80 hectares of vineyards, averaging 20 years old and planted with 80% Tempranillo (called Tinto Fino here), 10% Cabernet and 10% Merlot. The vineyards are farmed organically and the harvest is vinified in a state of the art winery, with maturation for 12 months in a mixture of new French, American and Russian oak barrels. With each vintage winemaker Jorge Peique Valle hones his technique and the 2005 is a plum, chocolate and coffee scented powerhouse of a wine.
