Bodegas Meler
The Meler family have been involved in wine for generations, but they only founded their own property as recently as 2004. Somontano itself is a region with little wine history, having only started to come to attention at the end of the 1980s with Viñas de Vero and Enate. Although in the foothills of the Pyrenées, the growing season is mild and rainfall more plentiful than in much of Spain. Meler have 24 hectares of vines, Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay, which are fermented and aged in French oak, giving a serious, rich and mealy wine.
