Altavins

Altavins was founded in 2001 by Joan Arrufí Peig and is a small winery located within the D.O. Terra Alta. The Altavins vineyards are located four hundred metres above sea level, benefiting from the cooling wind and a large diurnal temperature shift. The soil is rich in chalk and limestone, where the old vines (up to ninety years old) have deep roots to find just enough water reserves. The combination of sun, drought and wind keep the vineyard healthy. Joan’s philosophy is simple: Identity, Honesty, Mediterranean Spirit. He takes the utmost care when working with the grapes so that he can capture all of their virtues and, with minimum intervention, harness their potential.
