Alma de Cattleya
Bibiana González Rave already knew she would become a winemaker at the age of 14. After completing a degree in Chemical Engineering and Business she moved to Bordeaux to study viticulture and oenology. Thereafter working with some of the best wineries in France, including Château Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut Brion and Château la Dominique in Bordeaux, Michel & Stéphane Ogier and Domaine Clusel-Roch in Côte-Rôtie and Domaine du Devevey in Burgundy. Bibiana’s first vintage in California was 2004 working with La Crema, Peay Vineyards, Au Bon Climat and Qupé before Lynmar Estate, where she was winemaker from 2009 through early 2012. In 2012 Bibiana struck out on her own as a consultant winemaker and created the first of her brands Cattleya. Soon after she was named one of Wine Enthusiast’s first “40 Under 40: America’s Tastemakers” in 2014. Bibiana’s newest venture, Alma de Cattleya, represents the soul of the California appellation where the wines are made. Alma means “Soul” in Spanish and Cattleya is the national flower of her native country, Colombia.
