“The Latour of the Margaret River”

Jancis Robinson MW

On the 2021 – “After a long, mild season Cabernet Sauvignon ambled to full ripeness, producing a classical Moss Wood in the style of the great 1990, with ethereal fruit perfumes and soft, round tannins.” – Keith and Clare Mugford, Proprietors and Wine Makers, Moss Wood

As importers for Moss Wood in the UK we are delighted to release the new vintage of their flagship wine, their 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon.

2021 was one of the cooler vintages in Margaret River and those who have collected the wines over the years will know that some of their most legendary wines have come from cooler years, vintages such as the 1990, 2000 and 2015.  The time from flowering to harvest was 140 days – 3 weeks more than normal – allowing for superb complexity and ripeness to build as the fruit reached full ripeness. The final blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot.

Moss Wood was included in the first Langton’s classification of Australian wine in 1991, and has held the highest, coveted ranking of “Exceptional” since 2000. Widely regarded as the finest Cabernet Sauvignon from Western Australia, Jancis Robinson MW describes Moss Wood as “the Latour of the Margaret River.” Moss Wood is also a firm favourite of Matthew Jukes, who writes “Moss Wood is my favourite producer of Cabernet in Australia.. of all the elite performers this estate represents the finest value for money.”

We couldn’t agree more, which is why we’ve been proudly importing these wines for over 30 years.

Moss Wood Cab

Vibrant with plenty of red and black fruits on the nose mingling with subtle spices and a delightful floral note.  There is a beautiful balance of richness and elegance here with layers of concentrated dark fruits and top notes of fresh red berries leading to fine tannins and lingering acidity.  This is a seductive beauty but would repay a decade or more in the cellar.”
