We are delighted to launch our Burgundy 2022 En Primeur campaign with one of our flagship producers: Nicolas Potel’s Domaine de Bellene.

Nicolas Potel, whose family used to own Pousse d’Or, created Domaine de Bellene in 2005, and over the course of the last two decades has been steadily acquiring parcels of old vines both in under-the-radar appellations and iconic terroirs.

It’s too early for scores for these wines from the major critics, but we tasted them twice in Burgundy in October and November, and it might be Nicolas’ best vintage to date at the domaine. This is high praise given the glowing reviews his 2021s received, including a raft of ‘outstanding’ accolades from Allen Meadows. With Nicolas’ son, Alphonse Potel, increasingly involved, the future looks very bright and secure at the domaine.

Finally, a note on pricing: Nicolas has responded to market conditions and a more generous harvest by reducing all of his prices for the domaine wines. This is only possible because he owns the vineyards and controls all aspects of production. The reduction is despite all the increases in production costs and the increased cost of everything from bottles to labels and cartons. It’s a very welcome reduction and a great way to kick off the 2022 Burgundy campaign, with wines starting at just £180 per case of 12!
