“A beautifully made everyday wine featuring dark chocolate, plum and Mediterranean scrub scents… Extraordinarily good value”

Richard Baudains, Decanter

We were hugely excited to see one of our long-standing Italian producers, Morisfarms, featured in the latest issue of Decanter. Not only was the 2020 Morellino di Scansano given 93 points and a glowing write up, but Morisfarms was highlighted as a name to watch in the region, calling their Morellino wines “a benchmark for the denomination.”

The Moris family have been settled in the Tuscan Maremma for two hundred years, and were one of the first farms to realise the potential for fine wine in this quiet, unspoilt corner of Tuscany. The smaller of their two estates, Poggio la Mozza, is in Morellino di Scansano, and in the many years we have worked with them, the wine produced never fails to impress. In our opinion this is a hugely undervalued estate that is only now starting to garner the attention it deserves.

“Attilo Pagli has made the wines on the various Moris estates since the early 1980s. At Massa Marittima he created one of Tuscany’s great red wines, Avvoltore, and at Poggio La Mozza the long-lived Morellino Riserva. This delicious midweight annata from Sangiovese with a little Merlot and Syrah is not the grandest wine in the range, but it is a beautifully made everyday wine featuring dark chocolate, plum and Mediterranean scrub scents and a perfectly balanced tannic weave on the palate. Extraordinarily good value.”
