2020 Chateau Lagrange, Pomerol (6 x Bottle)
100% Merlot which will be aged in 30% new oak barrels for 18 months. Edouard Moueix described this to us as his ideal ‘shooting claret’ and you can see why – it has so much early appeal and will drink beautifully either out in the field or at the dinner table at any point during its first decade.

Vinous
The 2020 Lagrange is an open-knit, charming Pomerol. Bright floral notes lead into a core of raspberry coulis, blood orange, mocha and star anise. Medium in body and silky, with terrific energy as well as persistence, Lagrange is very nicely done.

The 2020 Lagrange (Pomerol) is soft, supple and easygoing, just as it was from barrel. Bright red-toned fruit, flowers, cinnamon and blood orange are nicely lifted. This mid-weight Pomerol is not super complex, but is wonderfully delicious and charming, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Lagrange is another terrific, under the radar wine in 2020.

Vinous
The 2020 Lagrange (this is the Pomerol "branch") has a slightly disjointed bouquet that displays just a touch of herbaceousness underneath the carapace of black fruit; it doesn’t quite knit together. The palate is medium-bodied with hints of espresso and dark chocolate. There is a slight lactic texture to this Lagrange, and it feels a little flat on the finish. So-so.

Vinous
The 2020 Lagrange has a light and still quite herbaceous nose, not unattractive, though one would have expected more fruit concentration given the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, actually superior with more pedigree than the aromatics, black pepper and a splash of soy marking the sweet finish. It’s just a slightly lop-sided Pomerol.
