Great Value White Burgundy 2024

Picking up junior wines from top producers is always a smart way to guarantee the best bang-for-your-buck - and our Fine Wine team have picked some of their top value buys from the Burgundy 2024 En Primeur campaign.

In each of the below wines, where skilful winemaking marries with the stunning terroir of the vineyards, the quality far exceeds what one would expect for a ‘Bourgogne’. Indeed one of the world’s most experienced palates, Jancis Robinson MW, says of the Bourgogne Chardonnay from Matrot this “Could easily be taken for a Meursault.” From further up the road Samuel Billaud’s 5 star “Les Grands Terroirs” is the absolute epitome of what one expects from a great Chablis, as Jasper Morris puts it: “The “they don’t make Chablis like they used to” grumblers should be satisfied.”

2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Domaine Matrot

“Could easily be taken for a Meursault.” Jancis Robinson MW

£110 c/s In Bond – (6 bottles per case)

Bottled in July, just before the harvest, this regional blend from Meursault, Maranges, and the Hautes Côtes de Beaune was raised with 20% new oak. Production was significantly reduced in 2024, with around 70% lost to mildew, and the concentration shows in the glass. The nose is clean and composed, with stone fruit, light citrus, and a modest patisserie note from the oak. On the palate, the wine is direct and neatly framed, the reduced yields giving a little more depth without altering its classical shape. The acidity is firm but not intrusive. A discreet saline element appears towards the finish, adding definition and ensuring the wine closes on a precise, controlled note. Martin Tickle, Jeroboams Fine Wine Buyer

"High toned. Satisfying on the palate – could easily be taken for a Meursault. Still a little chewy and no hurry to drink. GV (Good Value)." Drink 2026-2030 16.5 Points, Jancis Robinson MW

2024 Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc, Domaine Hudelot Baillet

"I can imagine popping this soon after bottling without an ounce of regret." Neal Martin

£120 c/s bottles In Bond – (6 bottles per case)

From a cool, high-altitude site above Chambolle-Musigny, this Chardonnay shows a bright and polished profile in 2024. The nose combines citrus, white flowers and a light herbal accent. The palate is clean and well-proportioned, the fruit carried by crisp acidity that brings definition without sharpness. A discreet mineral line gathers through the mid-palate, leading to a fresh, stony finish. Stylish and particularly successful in 2024. Drink 2026-2030 Martin Tickle, Jeroboams Fine Wine Buyer

"The 2024 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc has mainly yellow fruit on the nose, touches of beeswax and passion fruit - good presence and vigour. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed entry, quite weighty and packed with flavour; it has the acidity to maintain freshness. I can imagine popping this soon after bottling without an ounce of regret." Drink 2026-2030. 90 points, Neal Martin

2024 Chablis ‘Les Grands Terroirs’, Samuel Billaud

“Classically poised and immediately expressive” Jasper Morris MW

£132 c/s bottles In Bond – (6 bottles per case)

Samuel’s Chablis “Grands Terroirs” is a blend of Les Pargues, Bas Chapelot and Fontenot. Classically poised and immediately expressive, the 2024 Chablis combines orchard fruit and citrus purity with a fine mineral drive. Notes of green apple, white peach and lemon pith glide over a core of chalk and sea breeze. There’s fine balance here between brightness and depth, finishing clean, long and distinctly Chablisien. (Drink 2026-2033) Martin Tickle, Jeroboams Fine Wine Buyer

"Made from the usual three locations. 25 hl/ha on average. A little bready yeast note on the nose along with its more classical components. Wonderful tension behind. The “they don’t make Chablis like they used to” grumblers should be satisfied. Crisp citrus notes infuse the finish". 5 stars, Jasper Morris MW

2024 Bourgogne Côte d'Or, Cuvee Oligocéne, Domaine Patrick Javallier

“Cool, fresh and what more do you want?” Jancis Robinson MW

£295 c/s in bond – (12 bottles per case)

Sourced from Les Pellans, a limestone-rich site that straddles Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, Oligocène remains one of the most consistently impressive Bourgogne Blancs in the Côte d’Or. The 2024 nose is brisk and lightly mineral, with citrus, orchard fruit and a subtle chalky lift. On the palate, the wine is precise and well cut, with bright acidity. The fruit is cool toned, shaped by the vintage rather than ripeness, and the mineral component emerges steadily as the wine develops. There is an understated sophistication to the mid-palate, supported by the natural tension of the year. The finish is clean and sustained, leaving citrus fruits and stony minerality in equal measure. Martin Tickle, Jeroboams Fine Wine Buyer

"Cool, fresh and what more do you want? Fresh and fine." Drink 2026-2030 16 Points, Jancis Robinson MW
