An iconic and much-loved bitter liqueur from Italy, Cynar (pronounced chee-nar) utilises artichokes as its main ingredient. Perhaps intimidating for the novice, this is a rich, deep and bitter spirit that is supremely versitile and will have you hooked in no time. Try replacing Cynar for Campari in your Negroni mix, or Aperol in your Spritz mix, for a richer, more grown-up refreshment. Otherwise, simply add a generous measure to ice in a highball glass and top up with either tonic or soda. Yum.
