2023 Whispering Angel Rose, Chateau d’Esclans, Cotes de Provence
Tasting note
Delicate, and elegant, full of red summer berries, creamy tones and a pleasing citrus finish, the epitome of Provencal rose.
Our thoughts
What more is there to say about the wine that kickstarted the boom in Provence rosé of the last decade or more? This ambitious estate was founded by Sacha Lichine, of the Bordeaux dynasty behind Château Prieuré-Lichine, and can lay claim to making arguably the best-known rosé in the world. A majority share of the property was sold to LVMH in late 2019, but the irrepresible Lichine remains in charge. A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle, Syrah and Tibouren, Whispering Angel is its most famous bottling, and harnesses mostly bought-in fruit, aged in stainless steel to produce a wine that has become an international phenomenon.
