2021 Clos de la Molenie, Bordeaux Rouge
Tasting note
The 2021 Bordeaux Rouge, 100% Merlot, is a tasty, supple red to drink now and over the next handful of years, while the flavors remain vibrant. Succulent red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice and rose petal linger.
Our thoughts
From the label on the outside of the bottle to the wine on the inside, this is an archetypally modern Bordeaux, from the increasingly high-quality enclave of Entre-Deux-Mers. Owned and run by the young couple Sylvain and Kim Destrieux, who only produced their first vintage in 2020, this small-scale 100% Merlot is made with whole bunches and natural yeasts and aged in old oak and amphorae for a lush yet savoury feel.

Vinous
The 2021 Clos de la Molénie, part aged in clay amphorae, has an attractive blackberry and wild hedgerow nose. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a light sprinkling of black pepper and a short but fresh, saline finish.
