2018 Barolo, San Rocco, Azelia
A monopole, which in itself is rare for Barolo, located in Serralunga d’Alba sitting just above Sorano and on an adjacent hill to Cerretta. Facing south/south-west the soil here is nearly 100% clay, and the vines are on average 70 years old. San Rocco typically produces a deep, earthy, peppery wine that demands food along with serious ageing. Drink 2030-2045

Vinous
The 2018 Barolo San Rocco is graced with pretty red berry fruit, orange peel, flowers and white pepper. There is fine balance and plenty of delineation, but the San Rocco is decidedly understated and quiet, as so many Barolos are in 2018. It's hard to look past the short, abrupt finish.
