2015 Puligny-Montrachet, 1er Cru Les Folatieres, Domaine Leflaive

France Burgundy Cote de Beaune

In bottle, Leflaive's 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres has found reserves of tension and precision that belie its buxom showing from barrel, opening in the glass with a pure bouquet of white peach, stone fruit pits, confit lemon, spring flowers, pastry cream and a discrete framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and complete with impressive harmony and a long, classy finish. Elegant, harmonious and youthfully reserved, this classic Folatières should really hit its stride after five years in bottle. Matured in 20% new oak and bottled under Diam 30.

Vinous

(this wine finished its malolactic fermentation very early and has the highest pH of Leflaive’s 2015s at 3.25, with acidity of 3.9 grams per liter): Bright yellow. Deeply pitched aromas of peach, musky flowers and minerals. Rich, silky and fine-grained, with sweet stone fruit flavors supported by subtle balancing acidity. This tactile, expressive wine finishes rich and long and is likely to provide delicious early drinking.

Vinous

Pale, bright yellow. Riper and more open-knit on the nose than the Combettes, displaying lovely floral lift to its yellow fruit and spicy oak flavors. The smoothest of these 2015s to this point, showing a restrained sweetness and ripe framing acidity to its peach and pineapple flavors. A stony underpinning gives this very suave wine an impression of power to go with its balance. Tightens up on the end, but I suspect the Combettes will enjoy a longer life in bottle, as this wine seems to be lower in acidity.
