1977 Glenfarclas 43 Year Old Single Cask #7288, 43.1% ABV (70CL)
Distilled 01/11/1977, bottled 07/04/2021. Matured in fourth fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. Remarkably light in colour for its age, showing bright and clear gold—almost Sauternes-like in colour. Fantastic intensity of flavour on the nose. Initially heather honey pops out, followed by lemon balm, green apple, comice pear, dunnage, dusty sherry wood and hessian. Really quite beautiful balance between vibrant fruit flavours and the haunting, but still kicking, sherry cask. All subtly assertive and brilliantly balanced. The palate is similarly impressive, with a sensational balance of intensity and lightness of touch. Overall it is glacially-cool, with more heather honey, comice pear, and lemon oil again providing a foil for dried sherry oak spice, knitted together by a subtle cereal flavour. The cask flavour is very playing a supporting role. Super sweetness brings everything together. Finishes very long. This is undoubtably a superb dram that shows the magic of refilled sherry cask after a long period of aging. Beautiful.
