<br>The birthplace of the much-beloved Wombles, Wimbledon is undoubtably best known for its tennis championships and as home to London’s second-largest Iron Age hill fort. Originally known as “Wynnman’s Hill”, with the Celtic “dun” transforming it to what we today know as Wimbledon, this lush area of South London has long been home to many famous Londoners, including actor Tom Holland, film director Ridley Scott, and football manager Alan Pardew. Philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer even resided there for a short period in his youth. Wimbledon Village is the historic heart of this leafy area, adjacent to Wimbledon Common, where the Wombles live, the dogs are walked, and many a picnic enjoyed during the Summer months.
