Domaine de Bellene 2024 En Primeur

Domaine de Bellene

"Everyone at Jeroboams was deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Nicolas Potel in July 2025, at just 56. A great friend of the company and a familiar face at our January En Primeur tastings, he would personally drive samples from Beaune to London each year to ensure they arrived in perfect condition. The 2024 vintage is the last Nicolas produced at Domaine de Bellène, working alongside his son Alphonse. Looking ahead, it is reassuring that his children—Alphonse, Antonia and Emilien—are committed to continuing his work and preserving the spirit of the domaine. Yields in 2024 are extremely low across the range, to the extent that the Vosne-Romanée Quartiers de Nuits and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Suchots have been blended for the first time. This special cuvée will be bottled as Hommage à Nicolas Potel in his memory."

2024 Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc, Domaine de Bellène

Drawn from four parcels — Les Planchots, Aux Champs des Pruniers, Dessus de Vermots and Les Pimentiers — including vines up to 70 years old, the 2024 Savigny Blanc shows impressive depth for the appellation. The nose combines citrus, white peach and a light floral note, with a gentle touch of struck stone that brings lift. The palate is lithe and persistent, the fruit carried by steady, refreshing acidity. There is a natural sense of composure here: the flavours build gradually rather than pushing for impact, and a discreet mineral line runs through the wine from start to finish. The finish is long for Savigny Blanc, leaving a clean combination of citrus and stone. Drink: 2026-2032

Price: £130 / 6 bottle case

2024 Beaune, 1er Cru Les Perrières, Domaine de Bellène

Les Perrières is one of Beaune’s higher and smaller Premiers Crus, set on a steep, stony slope at the northern end of the appellation near Savigny-lès-Beaune. The site’s name reflects its quarry-like soils, and although historically planted to Pinot Noir, this plot was replanted to Chardonnay. The 2024 captures the limestone minerality with clarity. The nose is restrained but detailed, showing citrus oil, white peach and a light floral lift. The palate is finely drawn, driven by a firm mineral line. As it develops, a subtle saline nuance emerges, giving dimension to the cool-toned fruit. The finish is long and composed, carrying citrus and stone with an elegant persistence. Drink: 2027-2036

Price: £350 / 6 bottle case

2024 Meursault Les Forges, Domaine de Bellène

The Meursault lieu-dit Les Forges is just north east of the town, on the slopes towards Monthelie. Bellene’s plot is a 0.23-hectare parcel of 80-year-old vines. The 2024 Meursault Les Forges offers a detailed and inviting expression of the village. The nose shows ripe orchard fruits, subtle hazelnut and a faint pastry note, all carried with understated richness. The palate has breadth without heaviness, the fruit supported by firm, clean-cut acidity. As the wine develops, a saline line brings definition, while a hint of spice and almond adds dimension to the finish. There is a natural harmony between depth and freshness here, and the old vines contribute a quiet intensity that becomes more apparent with air. A confident, characterful Meursault that captures the vineyard’s old-vine personality. Drink: 2027-2036

Price: £350 / 6 bottle case

2024 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Hommage à Jean Ferté, Domaine de Bellène

This cuvée is drawn from a 0.77-hectare blend of old vines—including parcels planted in 1962—assembled in tribute to Nicolas Potel’s great-uncle, Jean Ferté. The 2024 shows a lifted and graceful aromatic profile: redcurrant, wild strawberry and rose petal, with a discreet earthy undertone that anchors the wine. The palate is supple and finely shaped, the red fruit carried by steady acidity and a light mineral thread. Nothing is pushed; the wine moves with quiet assurance, finishing on floral notes and a touch of savoury detail. A refined and transparent expression, offering early charm with the structure for mid-term ageing. Drink: 2026-2035

Price: £195 / 6 bottle case

2024 Beaune, 1er Cru, Hommage à Francoise Potel, Domaine de Bellène

In 2024 the usual five Premier Cru parcels are joined by a small component of Teurons, incorporated because yields were too low to vinify separately. The result is a deeply complete Beaune, darker in tone than the Savigny and shaped by its blend of terroirs. The nose shows black cherry, hedgerow fruit and a light violet lift. The palate is composed and layered, with fine tannins that give structure without austerity. A touch of tangerine zest lends brightness to the finish, which is long, refined and resonant. A poised and articulate Premier Cru that reflects both the vintage and the domaine’s precision. Drink: 2027-2037

Price: £250 / 6 bottle case

2024 Beaune, 1er Cru, Grèves, Domaine de Bellene

From the historic 0.23-hectare parcel planted in 1904, this is the domaine’s most powerful Beaune. It’s difficult to replant individual vines here because the old vines are so established they are effectively one combined root system. Around 80% whole bunches were used in 2024. The nose is dark and brooding: black cherry, blackberry and a ferrous mineral note. The palate is concentrated and tightly framed, the tannins firm but well defined, giving the wine both depth and verticality. A saline, iron-rich character runs through the finish, which is long and emphatic. This is a typically authoritative Grèves—serious, mineral and built for the cellar. Drink: 2028-2040

Price: £450 / 6 bottle case

2024 Vosne-Romanée, Hommage à Nicolas Potel, Domaine de Bellene

A deeply personal cuvée created from Quartiers de Nuits and Premier Cru Suchots, blended in 2024 because yields in both vineyards were too small to vinify separately. Following Nicolas’s passing, his children named the wine in his memory. Only four barrels were produced. The wine is unabashedly Vosne: perfumed, silky, and finely contoured. The nose shows red and dark cherry, violet and subtle Asian spices. The palate is suave and flowing, the tannins smooth and beautifully integrated. There is an inner sweetness to the fruit, balanced by a discreet mineral line. Elegant, polished and expressive—a fitting tribute. Drink: 2027-2040

Price: £795 / 6 bottle case
