Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin (6 x 50CL)
An enginmatic and unusual gin from the Black Forest featuring 47 botanicals, with a special ingredient: Lingonberries! Big and complex, assertive and balance, Monkey 47 is a beautiful gin. Starting with woody spice, it moves through wonderful fresh pine, to grassy citrus notes and warming botanical sweetness. Robust and powerful, there is loads of spice balanced out with big fruit and herbal flavours. Layers and layers of flavour from start to finish.
Monkey 47 makes a wonderful gin and tonic, which allows the big flavours to shine through. Equally makes a great Martini, or as a component in a Negroni.
The 47 of Monkey 47 comes from the number of botanicals used, along with the bottling strength. Around one third of the botanicals come from the Black Forest itself, with the rest sourced from around the world. Botanicals include almond and cloves, English hawthorn and sage, as well as their special ingredient, Lingonberries.
This unique recipe traces back to Montgomery Collins, a Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force who, after serving in Berlin during the Second World War, settled in the Black Forest where he opened a guest house. In respect to the distillation traditions of the region, he created "The Wild Monkey" gin so named after an Egret he befriended while rebuilding Berlin zoo. Having won almost every gin award under the sun, Monkey 47 gin is a must try.
