Kilkerran 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky, 46% ABV (70CL)

Owned by the Mitchell family behind neighbour, Springbank, Kilkerran is produced at the rennovated Glengyle distillery. As another distillery owns the naming rights to Glengyle (guess who), they have named it Kilkerran after the local loch. Re-opened in 2004 following closure in 1925, the Kilkerran 12 Year Old single malt whisky is a stunner. On the nose, oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, as well as cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat. The palate is initially fruity with citrus notes and orange peel, after this: vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb and digestive biscuits can all be tasted and enjoyed. It finishes velvet and smooth with lemon meringue, to conclude, there’s an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram.
