2023 Tavel Rose, La Reine des Bois, Domaine de la Mordoree
Tasting note
A very complex rose with white blossom notes mingling amongst red fruits (Raspberry, pomegranate, strawberry) finishing on a light menthol scent.
Our thoughts
Tavel, in the Rhône, is France’s only AC dedicated exclusively to rosé. Dark and brooding in colour and character, the wines here are the polar opposite of the light Provençal renderings. But don't be put off by the colour – these are complex, bone-dry wines with just a hint of tannin. Domaine de la Mordorée is a 50-hectare, organic and biodynamic domaine set in Tavel but making wines across a range of appellations, and very much in the premier league of Rhône producers. Its rosé is a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Clairette, 10% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 5% Bourboulenc that undergoes skin contact for 48 hours before pressing and vinification in stainless steel.
