2023 FRAM Chardonnay, Robertson, South Africa
Tasting note
A super aromatic Chardonnay thanks to a touch of Chenin Blanc in the blend. Bursting with ripe peach and fresh pear, with a lick of savoury complexity from a small portion of skin fermented chardonnay. and a "bit" of Chenin Blanc bouquet with peach skin and fresh pear. A rounded palate with a long juicy finish.
Our thoughts
The wines of FRAM reflect the personality of the man behind them – inventive, quietly confident, and, dare we say, a touch eccentric. Thinus Krüger specialises in South Africa’s more remote regions, including the hot, low-yielding Clanwilliam (the brand name is taken from a Norwegian exploration vessel that scoured both poles in the early 20th century) and likes to push boundaries (check out his quirky field blend of Palomino, Chenel and Muscat of Alexandria). His Chardonnay is a little more conventional, hailing from the more established and reliable Robertson, and delivering a wonderfully balanced wine that marries ripe, tropical front notes (aided by a splash of Chenin Blanc) with a lean core and green apple finish.
