2022 Moss Wood Chardonnay, Margaret River, Western Australia
Tasting note
A classic Moss Wood Chardonnay showing bright aromas of peach, white nectarine, melon, malt biscuit and roast cashew, with underlying notes of caramel and soft, spicy oak. Fresh, bright fruit on the palate leads to an unctuous nod towards custard tart, with a wonderfully gentle tannic structure.
Our thoughts
The profile of Moss Wood’s Chardonnay is as modest as its production, and as a consequence, we don’t see as much of the wine in the UK as we’d like – and nor do we generally include it in offers. Quite zippy for a Chardonnay, its racy acidity means this can easily age for 10 years or more.

Vinous
This intensely aromatic and bold 2022 Margaret River Chardonnay delivers powerful almond, nectarine and peach skin fruit with a rich, spicy French oak backbone. An impressive package follows with zesty acidity, dense, compact fruit and taut oak providing immediate impact before more floral and citrus tones begin to emerge. Young and tight, it demands significant cellaring to hit its peak.
