2021 Barbaresco Basarin, Paitin (6 x Bottle)
There is a coolness to this wine provided by the graphite structure and fine tannins. Redcurrants dance with crushed dried herbs while grapefruit zing explodes on the palate. Super vibrant and light on its feet, fabulous!

The Paitin 2021 Barbaresco Basarin is from a site with south-facing vines at 250 meters in elevation, and you can feel the warmth of the growing site. Summer heat lingers in Basarin. The bouquet has a note of biscuit or cracker, small tart berries and a green aroma that reminds me of parsley or celery in a frying pan. There’s a hint of white pepper too. The finish is very silky and polished. This is a fun technical Barbaresco for the wine nerds out there.

Vinous
The 2021 Barbaresco Basarin offers dark red fruit, lavender and a very strong tannic presence. A bit aggressive now, but I will be interested to see how this shows post bottling. Today the elements have not fully come together. There’s good energy but this feels raw and vegetal at this early stage.

Vinous
When I tasted the 2021 Barbaresco Basarin from cask, I had hoped a slight vegetal note would resolve, but it has not. Time has only amplified that signature. Even so, the 2021 offers good floral intensity in its aromatics and attractive mid-weight feel. But it’s also a work in progress.
