2020 Y by 11 Minutes Rose, IGT Trevenezie, Pasqua
Tasting note
Y is a rosé wine of complexity and freshness, structure and elegance, with hints of fruit and richness on the palate. The letter Y is the perfect symbolic representation of the personality of this wine, whose parts make up the 3 grape varieties of the blend: Corvina, Trebbiano and Carmenère.
Our thoughts
Founded by Puglians in 1925, Pasqua has made a splash in recent years with the production of small-batch, high-end wines from the Verona, often with eye-catching names. It made its name, however, as a producer of attractive and well-priced everyday wines, sourced from both its own vineyards in the Veneto, and selected growers further afield. The grapes for this rosé – a typically unorthodox blend of 60% Corvina, 25% Trebbiano and 10% Carmenère – come from around Lake Garda, with the ‘Y’ of the name thought (you never quite know with Pasqua, whose branding has become more and more avant-garde in recent times) to refer to the three inputs into the wine: Corvina gives red fruit with racy acidity; Trebbiano offers more delicate citrus and floral notes; while Carmenère lends structure and backbone. The 11 minutes, meanwhile, refers to the duration of the skin contact before the juice is direct pressed, fermented in stainless steel, and aged on the fine lees for three months.
