2020 Brane Cantenac Blanc
Plenty of personality, touches of juicy white pear and grapefruit, with honeysuckle and saffron adding an edge of bitterness through the finish. Good quality, from clay-dominant plot just next to Brane Cantenac in AOC Haut Medoc (bottled as the rules require as AOC Bordeaux Blanc). Aged in large sized 500l oak casks and barrels, 30% new oak, with lees stirring. The barrels are washed with water first to take out the dominant taste of new oak, Diam cork closure.

Vinous
The 2020 Brane-Cantenac Blanc is a soft, easygoing white to drink now and over the next handful of years. Lemon confit, sage, mint and chamomile are nicely laced together. The 2020 was fermented and aged in barrel, with some lees stirring. All it needs is more depth, and that should come as these vines planted in 2017 get older.

Vinous
The sophomore 2020 Brane-Cantenac Blanc comprises three-quarters Sauvignon Blanc, matured for eight months in 74% new oak. It has a well-defined nose with apple blossom, gooseberry, nettle and light granite scents. The palate is well balanced with a lovely, resinous texture, partly due to slightly more Sémillon in the blend. Ginger, sour lemon and orange rind bring fine cohesion towards the finish. This is a delicious white Margaux, though only 3,000 bottles are produced (sadly not distributed in the United States.)

Vinous
The 2020 Brane-Cantenac Blanc is a delightful white Margaux. It has a similar nose to earlier tastings, with apple blossom and nettle, a little fuller and more generous than I remember. The palate is beautifully balanced with that telltale resinous texture, and the Sémillon component adds weight and depth to the finish. Utterly delicious, this might seem like infanticide, but nobody will care once you taste it.
