2019 Nebbiolo d’Alba Superiore, Sterma, La Bioca
Ruby coloured with pale amber tints, the nose is ripe and highly expressive, with rose petal, dark autumnal fruits and earthy notes. The palate is vibrant and ripe, with a fine texture and firm but very ripe tannins.

Wow, this is lovely! Szechuan pepper, clove oil, orange-peel oil and roses fill my nose and mouth. Unbelievable elegance, fragrance and finesse for a £16 Nebbiolo! Racy; light as a dragonfly with the same darting, iridescent energy. Tastes of raspberries dusted with first-flush Darjeeling tea-leaf powder, of sweet green cardamom and the silkiness of matcha powder, smudged into cherry mostarda. Tannins as light as tracing paper, kohl-pencil etched. Wonderful stuff at a crazy price. A £40 wine in a £16 bottle.
