2019 Langhe Chardonnay, Bussia, La Bioca
An exquisite Chardonnay, the nose is full of apple pastry and preserved lemon notes, backed by oak spice and oatmeal. The palate is rich and very broad, with a thread of fine acidity. Hand harvested from a half hectare plot in the Bussia vineyard.

Jancis Robinson
Rich, mango, cream, Viognier-like. Nothing Chardonnay about this distinctive, unique wine, and, Peter Mitchell MW tells us, totally different from previous vintages and totally different from the 2019, which tastes much more like a traditional oak-aged Chardonnay. Spiciness. White pepper, cinnamon, galangal. There’s a deep, rich, silky sensuous sweetness and warm spices that take me to Carabao mango, to butternut soup, to pumpkin pie. It tastes, too, of Turkish delight, even a bit Gewürz-like. Crazy wine. And what this needs, without question, is suckling pig on a spit. Failing that, slow-cooked belly pork. Off-piste, fascinating, seductive. (TC)
